Free funeral costs savings calculator

Discover how much funeral directors charge for a funeral where you live

With national funeral prices seeming to rise every year, find out in just a few moments how much you could save on the typical funeral cost in your area.

The cost of a traditional funeral in the UK has never been higher.  In fact, our Pure Cremation Cost of Funerals research shows that the average cost of a traditional funeral in the UK is £4,562.

The cost also varies a lot across the country, and many people are surprised to learn just how much prices can differ depending on where they live.

Our free funeral costs calculator helps you understand the cost of a traditional funeral in your area. It only takes a few seconds and can help you start thinking about what’s right for you – and your budget. Simply enter your postcode, and you’ll see a clear picture of the typical cost in your area - and how much you could save with a Pure Cremation funeral plan.

Plus of course, getting a funeral plan protects you from future price rises, as costs across the country continue to rise.

A pure cremation means we will collect the deceased, bring them into our care, perform the cremation and return the ashes to loved ones. Unlike a traditional funeral, there is no ceremony at the crematorium, so no celebrant or attendees and no hearse, limousine or flowers, making it a more affordable option.

How the calculator works

Our Funeral Cost Calculator uses averages from the Pure Cremation Cost of Funerals research 2026 to illustrate what a typical funeral might cost in your area.

The research is conducted by checking the prices charged by 30 randomly-selected funeral directors in each of the nine regions across England, Scotland and Wales – making 270 funeral directors in all.

Prices are taken from the 'standardised price list' that every funeral director is required to publish on their website.

Burials are typically more expensive than cremations, so to accurately reflect the average cost, the weighting used in the calculation is 82% traditional cremations to 18% traditional burials – the same as the national ratio of burials to cremations.

The calculator focuses on what costs are typically part of a traditional funeral:

1. Funeral Director fees

2. Fees you must pay (burial or cremation)

3. A Celebrant, a Minister or a Humanist

4. Embalming

5. Additional limousine

6. Return of ashes (cremation only)

It does not include optional extras, such as flowers, catering, a wake or send-off.

By using these averages and adjusting for regional differences, the calculator gives a realistic picture of what a traditional funeral would typically cost in your area, helping you plan with confidence.
